In search of goulash

Gulyás - as it is spelled in Hungarian - is a soup or a stew with a broad variety of preparations & ingredients. Margaret was searching for a good bowel of the stuff, and so that was one objective for the night. We found a recommendation for a place, the Afoldi Veneglo Restaurant on Keckemeti Utca on the Pest side, not too far from the river. After a trip to the Museum of Applied Arts & meeting some friends, we decided to find this place - and see if the fare was as good as described it.

It was.

In the first shot, we have pictured the cucumber salad at 15 o'clock, the paprika rolls at s p.m., the pork goulash at quarter til the hour, and the pancakes "Hortobagy" style are at the top of the hour. In the center, the goulash soup.

Yes, we ate everything.

And then we ordered dessert.

Of course, following a meal like this, the two and a half hour home along the Danube was exactly what the doctor ordered - and quite beautiful.  A cool summer wind carried the sound of musicians. Friends & lovers sitting on the river banks, watching the water & the half moon rising over the city.
