Thoughts on a train

We took the train from Salzburg this morning (July 15), and the train is on schedule (of course) to arrive in Budapest at 2:50 p.m. We pass now by fields of corn. The Alps are long gone. And acres occupied by windmills.

One thing that strikes a traveler leaving the United States is how far ahead other countries are in their development of renewable energy. In Austria and Italy, we saw numerous stations where electric cars could regenerate themselves. In Slovenia, there are efforts to harness the energy from tidal movement as well as initiatives to harness geothermal energy. Of course, in Switzerland, a large portion of the electricity is generated through hydroelectric facilities.

And in the United States?

  1. This US gal is going to get a Nissan Leaf next week and be 100% electric! :] Doing my part! John is creating a geothermal heating system to pipe into the house and use for heat this winter~ glad you see such great examples of renewables in your traveling! Hugs & dark chocolate kisses!
